Marist Dominates Lincoln-Way Central 15-0 in Three-Inning Power Display

The Marist varsity softball team put on an absolute clinic on Thursday, utilizing an explosive offense to overwhelm visiting Lincoln-Way Central 15-0 in a three-inning, non-conference matchup.

Marist took complete control of the game from the opening pitch, showcasing a potent and relentless lineup. The hosts erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, immediately putting the Lincoln-Way Central pitching staff on its heels. Lauren Podkul started in the circle for the Knights and took the loss, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits over two innings of work. Ava Nemec pitched one relief inning, surrendering four runs on four hits.

The Marist bats remained scorching hot throughout the brief contest. They added a single run in the second inning before unleashing another massive seven-run outburst in the bottom of the third to securely put the game out of reach and trigger the run rule. The home team generated their 15 runs on 13 hits, anchored by highly efficient hitting and a single home run that punctuated the blowout.

Conversely, the Lincoln-Way Central offense was completely stifled by the Marist pitching staff. The Knights managed just one hit on the day and struggled to put the ball in play, striking out five times in only 13 at-bats. Bridget Barz provided a minor bright spot for the visitors by showing patience at the plate and drawing two walks. Carly Karales also reached base via a walk, but the Knights stranded four runners and were unable to mount any semblance of a rally against the overwhelming deficit.
