New Lenox School District 122 Meeting | February 17, 2026

The New Lenox School District 122 Board of Education tackled massive long-term planning initiatives during its February 17, 2026, meeting. The unanimous passage of a full-day kindergarten resolution, a teacher union contract extension through 2030, and over $1 million in curriculum adoptions highlighted an evening focused heavily on the district’s future trajectory. The board also navigated routine but essential business, including facility maintenance contracts, policy updates, and safety certifications.

HVAC Preventative Maintenance Contract
The Board approved an annual preventative maintenance agreement with Precision Control Systems to service the district’s HVAC equipment. The base agreement covers all district locations at a total cost of $239,654 per year. The Board also approved an optional spring additive agreement for $44,479, which covers semi-annual and quarterly maintenance tasks, including seasonal changeovers.

Specialized Nursing Contract Approved
The Board authorized a Skilled Nursing Services Agreement with Carist LLC to provide a 1:1 nurse for a student in the district’s Multi-Needs program. Carist LLC replaces Carters Care Services, which previously staffed the position. Under the attached fee schedule, the district will pay $74 per hour for a Registered Nurse (RN) or $61.67 per hour for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

High School Credit Policy Updated
The Board approved an update to Policy 6:315, which addresses high school credit for students in grades 7 or 8. During the meeting, Board Member Bill Pender asked how the policy would interact with Joliet Township. Superintendent Dr. Lori R. Motsch explained that Joliet Township has approved the policy with some modifications. “We want to have the opportunity for our kids in place in the event the credit option happens,” Motsch said. The Board also approved an update to Policy 1:30 regarding the district’s Mission Statement.

Election Day Forces March Meeting Reschedule
Due to recent changes to the Illinois Open Meetings Act, the Board officially rescheduled its upcoming March meeting. Public Act 104438, which went into effect on January 1, 2026, prohibits public bodies from holding regular meetings on the day of a general primary election. Consequently, the Board moved its scheduled March 17 meeting to Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m.

Hazardous Bus Routes Certified
The Board approved a resolution establishing 42 hazardous bus routes for students who cannot safely walk to or from school due to serious safety hazards. The approved routes, which span across areas involving Illinois Highway, Route 30, and Laraway Road, will be submitted to the Illinois Department of Transportation for official review and auditing purposes.

“Drawing Board Art League” Recognizes Students
The district highlighted its newly formed “Drawing Board Art League,” showcasing student artwork in the Board Room prior to the meeting. Art Teacher Catie Tinny recognized several students from Cherry Hill and Spencer Trail, including Vinny Allabastro, Olivia Mugnolo, Drake Oskvarek, Tuleen Baniata, Luke Folliard, Eli Ramirez, and Kenzie Rottmann. Board Members David Rush and Bill Pender presented the students with certificates.
