New Lenox Fire Protection District Meeting | August 2025

The New Lenox Fire Protection District Board of Trustees celebrated strong fiscal health and discussed project timelines at its meeting on August 18, 2025. The board announced that the district is now debt-free after making its final loan payment and has received a $75,000 state grant for an alerting system. For more information, please see the full story.

In old business, officials provided an update on the planned $4 million remodel of Station 62, indicating that a winter groundbreaking is unlikely due to the project’s logistical needs. A detailed article on the potential delay is also available. The meeting began with a special presentation swearing in a new K9 unit for the district.

New K9 Unit Sworn In:
The fire district officially welcomed its newest member during a special presentation at the start of the meeting. A swearing-in ceremony was held for a new district K9. The canine and its handler will serve as a valuable asset to the district’s operational capabilities.

Storms Increase Call Volume, Damage Station:
Recent summer storms have kept fire crews busy and caused damage to district property. A Deputy Chief reported that call numbers have increased, and crews are “doing a great job handling the increase.” The storms also brought down trees and damaged a fence at Station 1. The district is currently working with BC Applegate on repairs.

New Ambulances on the Way:
The district’s fleet will soon be updated with two new ambulances. According to a Deputy Chief’s report, the first new ambulance is expected to be finished and delivered in the first or second week of September. Production on a second new ambulance is scheduled to begin approximately a month after the first one arrives.

Fire Commission Awaiting Candidate Backgrounds:
Fire Commissioner Marty Terlep reported that the commission met on July 11 but is still in a holding pattern on processing new candidates. He stated that the commission is currently waiting to receive completed background checks before it can move forward with the hiring process. A date for the next meeting has not yet been set.
