The New Lenox Fire Protection District on Monday, July 21, 2025, took a major step toward modernizing one of its key facilities, approving a contract with a construction manager for a planned $4 million addition and remodel of Station 62.
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Northern Builders to oversee the project. According to the meeting minutes, the agreement stipulates that the construction manager’s fee will be 5% of the total project cost, with an additional 1% for insurance, plus the actual cost of the work performed.
The primary goal of the large-scale project is to update the station’s entire apparatus bay area to comply with current building codes, ensuring the facility meets modern safety and operational standards. District officials provided an initial cost estimate of $4 million for the capital improvement project.
Before the vote, the board confirmed that the district’s attorney, John Motylinski, had reviewed the contract with Northern Builders to ensure the terms were appropriate. Trustee Keith Popp made the motion to approve the agreement, which was seconded by Trustee Brian Fischer.
The motion passed with a 4-0 vote, with Trustees Skip Sauter, Cory Scanlan, Fischer, and Popp all in favor. Trustee Levey was absent. With the construction manager now officially in place, the district can move forward with the design and planning phases of the Station 62 overhaul.
