The New Lenox Village Board executed a brisk agenda on Monday, May 11, 2026, headlined by swift legislative action to assist residents dealing with late-night business parking overflow. Apraxia Awareness Day Proclamation: Mayor Tim Baldermann opened the meeting by presenting a proclamation declaring May 14, 2026, as Apraxia Awareness Day in the Village of New Lenox. The proclamation honors children battling Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), a rare motor planning disorder that makes producing clear speech intensely difficult. The Mayor presented the proclamation to a local resident, Carter, and his family, publicly praising the young boy’s resilience and the dedication of his speech-language pathologists.

Financial Disbursements: The Village Board unanimously approved the bimonthly financial disbursements totaling $6,260,736. Additionally, the Board formally approved the municipal payroll in the amount of $524,436.83, which was paid out to employees on May 1, 2026.

Crossroads Sports Complex Retaining Wall: The Board unanimously approved a $14,100 contract amendment with Northern Builders for work on Lot 1 of the Crossroads Re-Subdivision. Village staff reported that after completing utility work and conducting necessary soil borings at the site, engineers determined the originally planned retaining wall needed to be constructed slightly larger than anticipated, resulting in the cost increase.

Pete’s Site Retail Easement: Trustees approved a $2,500 proposal for engineering services from SpaceCo related to the New Lenox Retail Easement at the Pete’s site. The village recently installed a new water main in the area, and ComEd is now conducting electrical work that requires a specific, formalized utility easement through the property to move forward.

Public Works Vehicles and Equipment: Following up on a broader approval from last month, the Board officially authorized the purchase of various vehicles and equipment for the Public Works department. Staff noted the purchases are fully budgeted and are being staggered due to differing lead times spanning the next two years. The purchases are being sourced primarily through Sourcewell government pricing contracts.

Village Commission Reappointments: The Board unanimously approved a slate of mayoral reappointments to various village bodies. The approved terms include Mark Muehlnickel to the Plan Commission (expiring 2031), David Rafalski to the Fire/Police Commission (expiring 2028), Brian Watta to the Police Pension Board (expiring 2028), Brian Parker to the Police Pension Board (expiring 2027), and Scott Creech to the Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB) (expiring 2029).

Consent Agenda Approvals: The Board passed a nine-item Consent Agenda in a single, unanimous vote without discussion. Approved items included a Special Use Preliminary and Final PUD Plat for the Crossroads Sports Complex, the purchase of a new Public Works camera system, the trade-in of a municipal generator, the sale of surplus property to the Village of Markham, a social media archiving contract, an agreement with Chicago Street Market for the 2026 Farmer’s Market season, the establishment of an SSA for Spencer Meadows, and a DebtBook subscription renewal for the Finance Department.
