Homewood-Flossmoor Tops Knights in Conference Matchup
The Lincoln-Way Central varsity softball team kept pace throughout Monday’s conference road game, but ultimately fell to Homewood-Flossmoor by a score of 5-2.
Homewood-Flossmoor established control early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding one each in the second and third to build a 5-0 lead. The Knights’ offense began to rally in the middle innings, scoring one run in the third and another in the fifth to chip away at the deficit. Despite their efforts, Lincoln-Way Central was unable to overcome the early hole.
Hope Davis provided the spark for the Knights’ offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Audrey Hennings also contributed a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-4.
On the mound, Lauren Podkul took the loss, though she was victimized by defensive miscues as all five runs were unearned. Madelyn Lanigan provided a steady presence in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out one.
Lincoln-Way Central moves to 5-24 on the season. The team will look to clean up defensive play and build on their offensive momentum as they head into the next stretch of their conference schedule.
