Lockport Edges Lincoln-Way Central in Conference Battle
The Lincoln-Way Central varsity softball team dropped a hard-fought conference game on Wednesday, falling 7-4 to host Lockport.
The Knights’ offense put together a respectable performance, tallying six hits and four runs against a challenging Lockport pitching staff. Lincoln-Way Central broke onto the scoreboard in the third inning with two runs, later adding a pair of runs in the fifth to keep the contest competitive.
However, a pivotal fourth inning proved to be the difference in the game. Lockport erupted for six runs in the frame, capitalizing on defensive opportunities to pull ahead and take control of the momentum. Despite trailing, the Knights’ defense tightened up in the later innings to hold Lockport scoreless from the fifth inning onward.
Lockport’s pitching was effective throughout, as Anna Lundstedt and Bridget Faut combined to rack up 12 strikeouts over the seven innings.
Lincoln-Way Central moves to 5-24 on the season, while Lockport improves to 21-6. The Knights will look to carry their offensive production into their next series as they continue to work through the conference schedule.
