Appeals court upholds Madigan corruption conviction

The Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan’s conviction on ten counts of public corruption.

The ruling came down Monday after Judges Frank Easterbrook, Nancy Maldonado and Michael Scudder heard oral arguments in the case on April 9.

Woman charged with lying to buy gun used to kill Chicago cop

A woman has been charged with lying to purchase the gun used to kill Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew last Saturday.

Prosecutors say Olivia Burgos lied about her place of residence in Northwest Indiana and about her illegal drug use in order to buy the weapon. Alphanso Talley, 26, is charged with murdering Bartholomew and critically injuring Bartholomew’s partner.

CWB Chicago reported on Monday that Talley is a seven-time convicted felon who was listed as an absconder by the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Xhixgo mayor names new inspector general

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has appointed a longtime federal prosecutor to serve as the city’s next inspector general.

David Glockner spent more than 24 years in Chicago’s U.S. Attorney’s Office, including 11 years when he led the office’s criminal division.

Current Inspector General Deborah Witzburg has served in the role since 2022 but decided not to seek another term.

Venice man pleads guilty to St. Louis carjacking

Sentencing is scheduled on July 27 for a Venice, Illinois, man who admitted to helping carjack one man in St. Louis and shooting at another.

Harry Moore, 21, pleaded guilty to carjacking and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime in connection with an incident reported on Minnesota Avenue in September 2024.
