Knights Fall in Tight Pitching Duel Against Lemont
The Lincoln-Way Central varsity softball team battled in a defensive stalemate on Saturday, ultimately falling to Lemont by a score of 3-1.
The game was defined by exceptional pitching on both sides, as runs proved difficult to come by throughout the afternoon. Lincoln-Way Central struck first, plating a run in the opening inning to take an early lead. Lemont responded immediately in the bottom of the frame to knot the score at 1-1.
The deadlock held until the sixth inning, when Lemont managed to break through for two runs to secure the lead for good.
Knights pitcher Madelyn Lanigan turned in a gutsy performance, tossing six innings and allowing just five hits while striking out one. Despite her efforts, Lemont’s pitching proved equally formidable, holding the Lincoln-Way Central lineup to four hits and four runs total in the seven-inning contest.
Audrey Hennings paced the Knights’ offense, tallying two hits in three at-bats, while Hope Davis and Bridget Barz added one hit each.
Lincoln-Way Central, now 5-24 on the season, will look to bounce back in their upcoming conference matchups.
