The Lincoln-Way Central varsity softball team dropped a hard-fought 7-3 home conference matchup to Bradley-Bourbonnais on Monday, as the visitors capitalized on a decisive mid-game offensive flurry to secure the victory.

After two scoreless frames to open the contest, Bradley-Bourbonnais finally broke the ice with a single run in the top of the third inning. The visitors’ offense then found its rhythm, pushing across three runs in the fourth and adding two more in the fifth to build a commanding 6-0 advantage.

Lincoln-Way Central fought back in the late innings to keep the game competitive. The hosts broke the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fifth and mounted a late rally by plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. However, Bradley-Bourbonnais’ pitching staff effectively limited the damage and closed out the game.

Junior Juno Lundquist was perfect at the plate for Lincoln-Way Central, finishing 3-for-3 with a run scored to spark the offense. Freshman Hope Davis also contributed significantly, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Senior Annelysia Reina absorbed the loss in the circle for the hosts, battling through five innings. Reina allowed six runs on eight hits but only three earned runs, striking out three batters while navigating around uncharacteristic defensive miscues behind her. Sophomore Madelyn Lanigan pitched two innings of relief, surrendering just one unearned run on one hit.

Bradley-Bourbonnais relied heavily on the production of juniors Avery Moutrey and B. Schriefer. Moutrey went 2-for-2 and crossed the plate twice, while Schriefer tallied two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Senior Lydia Hammond earned the victory for the visitors with a brilliant performance in the circle. Hammond tossed six innings of one-run ball, scattering six hits and striking out eight Lincoln-Way Central batters without issuing a single walk.
