Providence Catholic Men Coast to Victory at Marmion Triangular

AURORA, Ill. — The Providence Catholic men’s track and field team continued its strong spring season on Wednesday afternoon, capturing a commanding victory at the Marmion Triangular #1 meet hosted by Marmion Academy on April 8, 2026.

The Celtics compiled 92 team points, more than doubling the score of runner-up Riverside-Brookfield (43 points). Host Marmion Academy finished third with 37 points.

Providence Catholic was paced by a dominant performance in the sprints, led by senior Teagan O’Brien. O’Brien swept the short sprints, claiming first place in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 11.45 seconds and winning the 200-meter dash in 23.23 seconds. Junior Bryce Vlasak provided excellent depth for the Celtics, finishing right behind O’Brien in the 200 meters (23.41) while also soaring to a victory in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 13.27 meters.

The Celtics also asserted their dominance in the relays and middle distances. Senior Kyle Szafranski captured the 400-meter title in 58.02 seconds, and junior Richard Simanis won the 300-meter hurdles in 49.51 seconds. Providence Catholic’s relay squads were nearly untouchable, taking first place in the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400-meter events. In the field, freshman Piotr Witowski cleared 1.52 meters to win the high jump, and junior Jack Tiernan won the pole vault by clearing 3.05 meters.

Riverside-Brookfield secured second place thanks to key victories in the distance and jumping events. Senior Emmitt Olson was a standout for the Bulldogs, winning the 800-meter run in 2:16.32 and helping his team secure a victory in the 4×800-meter relay (9:09.42). Senior Cooper Sahlas added another gold for Riverside-Brookfield, taking first in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.80 meters.

For the host Marmion Academy Cadets, junior Jack Galindo was a dual-winner in the throwing circle. He won the shot put with a 13.11-meter toss and dominated the discus with a personal-best throw of 42.62 meters. On the track, senior Lucas Galindo claimed the 1600-meter race with a personal-best time of 4:58.66, and senior Grant Buchner won the 110-meter hurdles in 18.88 seconds.
