Tomich was presented with The Lonnie Jackson Public Education Award during this year’s Illinois Fire Inspectors and Life Safety Educator conference. She received the high honor following a nomination submitted by her peers and colleagues within the fire service.

District officials praised Tomich for her daily dedication to educating the public, describing her as a “fan favorite” among students across multiple local school districts due to the numerous programs and safety lessons she delivers each year.

Beyond her work with local youth, Tomich serves as the fire district’s lead CPR instructor. Her outreach efforts also include heavy involvement with the local senior citizen community. Furthermore, her educational impact extends to the professional fire service level, where she instructs future Chief Fire Officers on the critical importance of public education.

In a public statement announcing the award, district officials expressed immense pride in Tomich’s accomplishments, noting that she works extremely hard day in and day out to serve the community and the fire district.

“She is very deserving of this honor and we couldn’t be more proud to have her as part of our organization,” officials stated, congratulating her on the well-deserved recognition.
