NEW LENOX, Ill. — The Lemont varsity baseball team showcased relentless offensive pressure and capitalized on defensive miscues to pull away late, securing a decisive 14-4 non-conference road victory over Lincoln-Way Central on Saturday afternoon.

Operating with incredible efficiency at the plate, Lemont pounded out 12 hits and drew 10 walks, constantly applying pressure to a rotating Lincoln-Way Central pitching staff. Brett Tucker was the undeniable offensive star for the visitors, enjoying a massive afternoon that included a home run and a double. Tucker finished a near-perfect 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk to anchor the lineup.

Zane Schneider and Mike Kalkowski also delivered crucial multi-hit performances for Lemont. Schneider went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and drew two walks, while Kalkowski finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, two walks, and a pair of stolen bases.

The game was initially competitive. Lincoln-Way Central struck first in the bottom of the first inning, pushing an unearned run across to take an early 1-0 lead. Lemont finally broke through against the Knights’ pitching staff in the top of the third, scoring twice to take a 2-1 advantage.

The visitors added a single run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to stretch their lead to 4-1. Lincoln-Way Central briefly shifted the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair of unearned runs to cut the deficit to 4-3. Junior Daniel Houston provided a spark for the Knights’ offense, finishing 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored, but the hosts could not string together enough consistent at-bats to complete the comeback.

Holding a narrow one-run lead entering the sixth inning, Lemont essentially put the game away. They tacked on a crucial insurance run in the sixth before erupting for a massive nine-run outburst in the top of the seventh. The late surge broke the game wide open and completely overwhelmed the Lincoln-Way Central bullpen.

The Knights struggled with control, utilizing six different pitchers who combined to walk 10 batters and allow 14 runs—although five runs were unearned due to three fielding errors.

Lemont’s pitching staff, meanwhile, was highly effective in neutralizing the Knights’ bats. Dylan Jones earned the victory with four dominant innings of relief. He struck out eight batters, allowed just two hits, and yielded zero earned runs to completely silence the Lincoln-Way Central lineup and secure the 14-4 win.
