Moody’s Credit Rating Upgrade: Commissioner Ott formally highlighted a major financial victory for the district, noting that Moody’s Ratings officially upgraded the park district from an A2 rating to an A1 rating. Ott called the upgrade “fantastic” and a testament to the strength of the district’s finances. He emphasized that the Business Services department continues to aggressively roll over excess funds and CDs to generate interest revenue, maximizing the value of the taxpayer’s dollar.
Turnkey Park Developments Pending: Executive Director Greg Lewis informed the Board of multiple impending residential developments approaching the village. Lewis noted that documents were included in the Board packet detailing two specific developments, explaining that the park district is heavily involved in these meetings and is “looking to receive a turnkey park” as a result of the residential expansions.
Haines Ice Rink Concludes Season: Director of Parks-Maintenance Ken Stephens reported that the seasonal Haines Ice Rink successfully operated for 22 days during the winter months before closing for the season.
Athletic Association Meetings: Stephens announced that spring coordination meetings will commence in March. The district will meet with the local Baseball, Softball, and Soccer associations to begin obtaining the required documents and insurance for the upcoming spring athletic seasons.
Community Events Announced: President Schulz announced several upcoming events hosted by the New Lenox Lions Club. The Garden Party Fashion Show will be held on March 22, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the New Lenox VFW Post 9545, with tickets available for $30. Additionally, the Lions Club will host a Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, April 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
IAPD Conference Recognition: Commissioner Fischer reported that the Recreation Department recently attended the IAPD/IPRA Soaring to New Heights Conference, completing 33 classes totaling 33 hours of continuing education. Fischer congratulated President Schulz, who serves as the chairman of the Illinois Association of Park Districts this year, for a “job well done” on stage at the Awards Luncheon. Schulz thanked the commissioners and staff for their support during the conference.
