Klody’s 15 Strikeouts, Power Surge Lift Benet Academy Past Lincoln-Way Central 4-1

NEW LENOX, Ill. — Noel Klody delivered a masterful performance in the circle, striking out 15 batters to lead Benet Academy to a 4-1 non-conference victory over host Lincoln-Way Central on Thursday afternoon.

Klody went the distance for the Redwings, tossing a complete-game two-hitter. She completely overmatched the Lincoln-Way Central lineup, allowing just one earned run and three walks over her seven innings of work on 112 pitches. Whenever the host team threatened, Klody found a way to shut the door, ensuring Benet Academy maintained its advantage from the opening frame.

The Redwings provided Klody with all the run support she would need via the long ball. Avery Burns was the focal point of the Benet offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, a double, and two RBIs. Alaina Rosner matched the power surge, crushing a home run of her own and driving in the team’s remaining two runs.

Benet Academy struck early, pushing a run across in the top of the first inning to take immediate control of the contest. After a pair of scoreless innings, the Redwings doubled their lead with another run in the fourth.

Lincoln-Way Central finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning, scratching across their lone run of the game to cut the deficit to 2-1. Despite playing a perfectly clean game defensively with zero errors, the hosts simply could not generate enough offense to rattle Klody.

Unfazed by the fifth-inning run, Benet Academy responded with single insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Sofia Heggie added a double and drew two walks to keep the pressure on the bases, while Sophia Rosner and Ana Schaefer each crossed the plate to help secure the 4-1 victory.

Despite committing four fielding errors, Benet Academy’s dominant pitching and timely power hitting proved to be the difference-maker in the decisive road win.
