The Will County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, March 6, 2026, responded to a fatal hit-and-run crash in Homer Glen that claimed the life of an unidentified pedestrian.

Just after 6:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a call regarding an injured person in the roadway on 159th Avenue between Gougar and Cedar Roads. Upon arrival and further investigation, deputies determined that the injured individual was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision.

According to preliminary investigations by the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the sequence of events began when a driver heading eastbound on 159th Avenue struck a dog that was in the road. When that driver stopped their vehicle following the impact with the animal, they discovered an injured person lying in the roadway.

Authorities stated that the injured person appeared to have been struck by a previous driver who did not stop at the scene. Following the discovery, 911 was called. The driver who struck the dog, along with another passerby, began to render aid to the severely injured pedestrian while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office is now actively investigating the incident and asking the community for assistance. Officials requested that anyone who happened to witness this critical accident on eastbound 159th Avenue around 6:00 p.m. reach out to the department to provide information.

Official identification of the victim is currently pending and will be formally released by the Will County Coroner’s office. In their public release, the Sheriff’s Office stated, “We would like to send our condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
