The largest expenditure was a $223,953 contract awarded to The Motz Group for the fabrication and replacement of batter’s and catcher’s boxes. Operations Director Brian Williams explained that the facility’s original turf installer, who has since gone out of business, provided boxes that were not interchangeable between the main fields and smaller fields, restricting the complex’s ability to seamlessly transition between baseball and softball.
The new boxes will allow dual-sport play on all 29 fields. Due to the impending spring season and the unique nature of the work, the Board voted to formally waive the competitive bidding process. Williams noted the Motz Group was highly recommended to the local park district, and the six-week lead time requires work to begin by April.
To accommodate the surging influx of athletes and fans, the Board also approved a $34,000 proposal from Spaceco Engineering to design a new parking lot on the northeast edge of the complex. The project, utilizing undeveloped land near the maintenance building, will add 245 parking stalls intended for umpires and public overflow once the future indoor fieldhouse is constructed.
On the revenue side, Crossroads General Manager Scott Brost presented a series of use license agreements. The Board approved Resolution #26-15, cementing a lucrative partnership with Game Day USA. Valued at $210,000, the agreement guarantees return tournaments from 2026 through 2028, with Game Day USA handling all event promotion, registration, and staffing.
The complex is also expanding its demographic reach with Resolution #26-14, authorizing a $15,000 agreement with Overtime Lacrosse. Brost noted the tournament, scheduled for October 6 through October 8, represents the complex’s third lacrosse event of 2026, extending the facility’s active season deep into the autumn.
Rounding out operations, the Board approved Resolution #26-16, authorizing a wholesale partnership with Mini Melts, USA, LLC to significantly lower the cost of goods sold at the concession stands, and authorized a $1,560 contract with Elliot Electric to relocate a power source in the main kitchen, optimizing efficiency for the food and beverage team.
All items were approved by unanimous 7-0 votes.
