New Lenox Village Board Meeting | February 9, 2026

Article Summary: The New Lenox Village Board of Trustees accepted a bid from Romero Guzman Landscaping Inc. for turf mowing and landscape maintenance. The two-year contract was the lowest of six bids received.

New Lenox Village Board Key Points:

  • Contract Awarded: Romero Guzman Landscaping Inc. was awarded the contract with an annual price of $185,477.53.

  • Duration: The agreement covers a two-year period with options for subsequent years at the same price.

  • Bid Process: Six bidders participated, with village staff verifying references for the lowest bidder before making a recommendation.

The New Lenox Village Board on Monday, February 9, 2026, voted unanimously to approve a contract for village-wide turf mowing and lawn maintenance.

Following a bid opening on February 2, the village received proposals from six companies. Village staff recommended the board accept the bid from Romero Guzman Landscaping Inc., which came in as the lowest current bidder.

The approved contract is set at $185,477.53 per year. The terms of the agreement span two years and include options for renewal in subsequent years at the negotiated price.

During the discussion, Mayor Tim Baldermann noted a significant price difference between the lowest bidder and the other submissions.

“Any thoughts on why there’s such a big spread between one and two and from there? I mean, it’s crazy,” Baldermann said.

A village staff member explained that such variances are common in the bidding process for this type of work. He assured the board that the village had contacted three references for Romero Guzman Landscaping Inc.

“They have several landscape contracts with other local municipalities,” the staff member told the board. “We checked with three of the references and all said they perform at a high level.”

Baldermann expressed satisfaction with the vetting process. “With the reference checks, you’re comfortable… and people I can talk to I trust,” Baldermann said.

Trustees Katie Christopherson, Amy Gugliuzza, Jim Wilson, Bryan Reiser, and Keith Madsen voted in favor of the contract. Trustee Lindsay Scalise was absent from the meeting.
