New Lenox Public Library Key Points:

  • Strategic Approval: The Board unanimously approved the 2026-2028 Strategic Plan and the specific Action Steps for the 2026 calendar year.

  • Master Plan Presentation: Ryan LeFave of Studio GC presented a Master Building Plan to the trustees.

  • Insurance Renewal: The Board authorized the insurance renewal for the 2026 calendar year.

The New Lenox Public Library District Board of Trustees on Monday, December 15, 2025, moved forward with significant planning initiatives, formally adopting a new multi-year strategic plan and reviewing potential capital improvements.

During the meeting, the Board voted unanimously to approve the 2026-2028 Strategic Plan along with the Calendar Year 2026 Action Steps. According to the Executive Director’s report, this final version of the plan incorporates feedback from a strategic plan survey, which notably influenced a shift in the library’s eNews frequency.

In addition to the strategic vote, the Board engaged in long-term facility planning. Ryan LeFave from Studio GC appeared before the Board during the “Audience to Visitors” segment to present the firm’s Master Building Plan for the library. While the minutes noted the presentation occurred, no formal vote was taken regarding the building plan at this meeting.

As part of the consent agenda, the Trustees also approved the insurance renewal for the 2026 calendar year. The motions for the strategic plan and insurance renewal were made by Trustee Tatro and seconded by Trustee Moncek, passing with a unanimous roll call vote.

Compensation Study Underway:
Administration reported that work is ongoing regarding a compensation study. The process involves reviewing all job descriptions to ensure language consistency and equity. The findings are expected to be shared with managers before being presented to the Board in January. Following Board review, the data will be submitted to HR Source for an official compensation study.

Community Impact and Veterans Event:
The Adult and Teen Services department reported positive community feedback regarding the annual Veterans Breakfast held on November 10. Ten veterans participated, and the library received specific praise from veteran Ken Vogen for the organization and food provided by Panera Bread. Additionally, the library collected 506 food and non-food items during a donation drive for the New Lenox Food Pantry.

Facility Repairs and Upgrades:
The Facilities Department completed several maintenance tasks, including replacing the variable frequency drive for the supply fan at AHU1 and replacing bearings on the first-floor return fan. Exterior improvements included cleaning and sealing gutters and adding a second picnic table to the Café patio.

Youth Services Success:
The Youth Services department highlighted a successful partnership with the KidsWork Museum for a Family Reading Night on November 20. Staff also fielded nearly 100 questions from young patrons during the “Know More November” passive programming event.

Administrative and Board Updates:

  • Attendance: Trustees Vancina, Monbrod, Moncek, and Tatro were present at the building. Trustee Loecke attended remotely following a unanimous vote to permit it. Trustees Didion and Wheat were absent.

  • Internships: The library continues its partnership with Joliet Junior College (JJC). Intern Sam Blatti completed her term, and a new intern, Eddie Barker, is scheduled to start in January.

  • Future Closures: The Board indicated no objection to closing the library for regular services during the upcoming “Maker Day” event, though a formal vote will occur at a future meeting.
