New Lenox Public Library District Meeting | October 20, 2025

The New Lenox Public Library District Board of Trustees on Monday, October 20, 2025, reviewed a draft of its new three-year strategic plan, which was informed by over 750 community survey responses. The board also heard reports on needed facility repairs to the roof and HVAC system, welcomed new staff members, and celebrated the library’s success in community outreach, including a highly successful Library Card Sign-Up Month. In official business, the board approved a November 17 date for its Truth in Taxation hearing and approved the payment of bills. The presentation of the annual audit was postponed until a later meeting.

Truth in Taxation Hearing Set for November 17:
The Board of Trustees formally approved setting its annual Truth in Taxation hearing for its next meeting. The hearing will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Friends of the Library Fundraiser at Portillo’s:
Board President Alex Vanicna reminded attendees of the upcoming Friends of the Library fundraiser scheduled to take place at the New Lenox Portillo’s on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

Staff Member Dawn Celebrates 20 Years:
Adult and Teen Services Manager Monica Waligorski reported that a staff member, identified as Dawn, celebrated her 20th anniversary working at the library on September 12.

Library’s Chess Club Praised by Trustee:
Trustee Erin Moncek, attending the meeting remotely, commented on the success of the library’s Chess Club. She noted that her son “loved it” and expressed her happiness that the library offers the program, as it is not always available at school.

Church Thanks Library for Donated Chairs:
The board received correspondence from Debbie Huggett, Senior Warden at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, thanking the library for a donation of chairs. Huggett wrote that the chairs were “the biggest hit of the day” at the church’s recent “Jubilation Sunday” celebration.
