NEW LENOX, IL – The New Lenox Public Library District is tackling necessary building maintenance while continuing to enhance its staff and technology, according to reports at the board meeting on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Facilities Coordinator Nikki Orchard reported that the library’s exterior window washing and railing projects have been completed. However, new issues require attention, including replacing the bearings on the first-floor HVAC return fan. The library is also obtaining quotes for extensive roof-related work, including gutter repair and cleaning, seam repair, and the installation of heat tape and ice breakers.
In staffing news, Assistant Director Shalyn Rodriguez announced the hiring of two new Youth Services Specialists, Mandy Novak and Andy Onderisin. Their arrival comes as Patron Services Specialist Jan Schwarz has resigned, with the library now interviewing for the open position.
On the technology front, Studio Manager John Morgan reported that a staff member, Maggie Gonzalez, won a new laser cutter for the library’s creative space after attending the “MakerFaire” in Oakland, CA. This win coincided with a rebound in 3D printing activity, which had its second-best month ever after a slow August.
Assistant Director Rodriguez also informed the board that the annual audit presentation was delayed, as the auditors were busy with tax returns. She noted an effort is underway to complete future audits more quickly.
