NEW LENOX, Ill. – The Village of New Lenox is hardening its digital defenses against cyberattacks following a vote by the Village Board on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Trustees unanimously approved a proposal from Proven IT to provide 24/7 management, detection, and response services for the village’s internal networks. The contract is priced at $3,515 per month.
Mayor Tim Baldermann explained that while the village has internal staff monitoring systems, they cannot be on watch 24 hours a day. He revealed that the village has been targeted previously.
“There’s a couple times they’ve got into the system, we shut it down before they did any damage,” Baldermann said. “But this gives us a 24/7 [protection]… It’s just getting so sophisticated.”
Village officials noted that a successful breach could be catastrophic for municipal finances and data. “For what the loss would be, it’s really not much of an expense,” Baldermann added.
The new service covers village municipal operations but does not extend to the separate school or park district systems.
