New Lenox School District 122 Meeting | September 2025

The New Lenox School District 122 Board of Education held a public hearing and formally adopted its budget for the 2025-2026 school year during its meeting on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The approved budget projects a $4.4 million surplus, which aligns with the district’s strategy of funding capital improvements with cash reserves to avoid debt. More information on the budget is available in a full-length article.

In other significant financial discussions, the board reviewed a detailed proposal to issue life safety bonds to cover the costs of an $8 million HVAC renovation at Tyler Elementary School. The board also heard a presentation on a community solar program that could save the district an estimated $55,000 in annual electricity costs. Full articles on the bond discussion and solar program are also available.

New Staff and PTO Leaders Welcomed
Superintendent Dr. Motsch and Associate Superintendent Dr. Liza Bruni introduced the district’s new certified staff hires for the 2025-2026 school year, welcoming dozens of new teachers, social workers, and specialists. The board also welcomed the new PTO Executive Board, led by Co-Presidents Jordan Tsoulos and Jordan Carrero, and thanked the organization for its contributions to the schools.

Consent Agenda Approved
The board approved an 11-item consent agenda, which included routine items such as the minutes from the August 19 meeting, the treasurer’s report, bill payments, and the personnel and annual compensation reports. The motion passed 6-0, with board member Al Haring abstaining.

Board Adopts Policy Updates
After a second reading, the board approved a package of policy updates recommended by PRESS, the Illinois Association of School Boards’ policy service. Superintendent Dr. Motsch recommended approving the updates without Policy 1:30, which concerns the district’s mission statement, as she would like to revisit that policy with the board during the January strategic planning meeting. The motion passed with Mr. Haring abstaining.

Board to Consider Bus Safety Resolution
Board member Bill Pender, serving as the district’s delegate to the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB), reported on a proposed resolution regarding seatbelts and harnesses on school buses. The resolution, which will be voted on at the Joint Conference in November, requests funding and waivers for the unfunded mandate. President Stephanie Peltzer invited board members to share their input with Pender before the conference.

District to Host Senior Breakfast
The district announced it will host its annual Senior Breakfast on October 22 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Martino Jr. High. The event is an opportunity for senior citizens in the New Lenox community to learn more about the schools. Interested seniors are asked to RSVP by October 15.
