Meeting Summary and Briefs: New Lenox Community Park District Meeting | September 2025

The New Lenox Community Park District is planning for the future, with its Board of Commissioners taking a key step on September 17, 2025, to authorize a potential $1.5 million bond sale for capital projects. The funds would support major initiatives, including the replacement of playgrounds in partnership with the local school district. More details can be found in a full article.

The board also celebrated the many successes of the Lincoln-Way Special Recreation Association, whose wheelchair softball team recently took second in the nation. It was also announced that construction at Sharon’s Bay Park has reached a major milestone with the start of playground equipment installation. Full stories on these topics are also available.

Golf Course Weathers Flood, Posts Strong August:
Despite being closed for three days due to a flood, the Sanctuary Golf Course reported that its August revenue exceeded figures from the previous year. Commissioner Kraemer noted that the course’s food and beverage department is short-staffed heading into the fall but is still seeing revenues above last August. A new tractor is scheduled to be ordered in November to assist the grounds crew.

Recreation Supervisor Resigns:
Commissioner Ott announced that Christina Studlow, who served as a Recreation Supervisor and IT specialist, has resigned from her position. Ott thanked her for her contributions to the park district and wished her well in her future endeavors.

Fall Youth Sports Seasons Underway:
Fall sports leagues are in full swing across the district. Commissioner Larson reported that all associations began their seasons on September 8. In a recent upgrade, Director of Parks-Maintenance Ken Stephens noted that the Mustang Football program has converted its field lights to more efficient LED technology.

“Last Call Before Fall” to Host Empty Bowls Fundraiser:
The “Last Call Before Fall” community event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Village Commons. The event will feature live music, drinks, a Fall market, and activities for children. The Friends of New Lenox Parks will host their “Empty Bowls” fundraiser, where attendees can purchase a bowl for $20 and sample unlimited soup from local restaurants.

Board Approves August Financials:
The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the Treasurer’s Report and the payment of bills for the period ending August 31, 2025. The approval covers all financial activity for the month, including revenue from a strong month at the golf course and expenses related to ongoing park maintenance and programs.
