The revitalization of Sharon’s Bay Park is taking a major step forward, with crews beginning the installation of brand-new playground equipment, the New Lenox Park District board learned on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Director of Parks-Maintenance Ken Stephens reported that the playground equipment has been delivered to the site. The installation was scheduled to start the week of September 15, marking a key milestone in the park’s redevelopment, which is supported by an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant from the state.

Work on the project has been progressing steadily. Stephens confirmed that contractors have already installed curbing for the new playground for ages 5-12 and an adjacent fitness area. Additionally, new concrete pads and sidewalks for a Gaga pit and a Game Plaza have been completed, laying the groundwork for the final phase of construction. Once the playground equipment is fully installed, the park will offer a completely refreshed and modern recreational space for the community.
