A New Lenox Fire Protection District battalion chief was recognized on Monday, September 22, 2025, for his service far from home. Battalion Chief Mike Parkhurst was presented with the MABAS Humanitarian Award for his work while deployed to a flooding disaster in Texas.
During a special presentation at the start of the board meeting, Pat Hardin from the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) presented the award to Parkhurst in front of the board, his colleagues, and his family. MABAS is a statewide mutual aid organization that coordinates the deployment of emergency resources to large-scale incidents and disasters both in and out of Illinois.
