Man charged with threatening Trump

For the second time in less than a week, a person from Illinois has been charged with making threats against President Donald Trump.

According to a criminal complaint unsealed Monday in a federal court, Trent Schneider, 57, of Winthrop Harbor posted on Instagram that he was going to get some guns and that Trump should be executed.

Schneider was ordered to remain detained in federal custody pending a hearing on Nov. 6. Last week, Derek Lopez, 27, of El Paso, Illinois was charged with making threats against the President.

Judge grants injunction in shelter funding case

A federal judge has granted the city of Chicago’s motion for a preliminary injunction in its lawsuit challenging the federal government’s termination of the Shelter and Services Program (SSP).

A statement from Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office said Congress created the SSP to reimburse non-federal entities for costs incurred providing humanitarian assistance to migrants processed and released by the Department of Homeland Security.

The city argued that the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s funding freeze and elimination of the program violated federal law.

Be alert for deer

The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Natural Resources are reminding the public to be alert for deer during peak mating season.

The agencies say deer movements and the chances of collisions are higher, especially at dawn and dusk through December.

There were 14,436 reported crashes involving deer in Illinois last year.
