New Lenox Community Park District Meeting | August 2025

The New Lenox Community Park District Board of Commissioners reviewed major financial news and celebrated a record-breaking month for its golf course at its meeting on August 20, 2025. The board held a public hearing on a proposal to sell up to $1.5 million in bonds to fund future capital projects. More details on the bond proposal are available in a full article.

In a highlight of the summer season, the district’s golf course reported its best month on record for July despite extreme heat. Officials also received difficult news regarding Bristol Park, where a failing drainage system is estimated to cost over $107,000 to repair. The district also celebrated the launch of the LWSRA’s new Sensory Bus, made possible by a $30,000 donation. Full stories on these topics are available for review.

Teerling Lakes Property Officially Annexed:
The board unanimously approved Ordinance #25-08-01, officially annexing property into the park district for the Teerling Lakes Central Park Development. The action formalizes the district’s jurisdiction over the site, where construction crews have already broken ground and are working on curbs and asphalt.

Sharon’s Bay Park Project Moves Forward:
Work on the redevelopment of Sharon’s Bay Park, which began on August 5, is progressing. Director of Parks and Maintenance Ken Stephens reported that old playground footings have been removed and concrete work for a new basketball court was scheduled to begin the week of August 18. The board also unanimously approved a change order for the project, which is partially funded by a state OSLAD grant.

Fall Youth Sports Kick Off:
Thousands of young athletes are participating in the district’s fall sports leagues. Commissioner Larson reported high enrollment numbers for girls’ softball (374 players), fall baseball (745 players), and football programs, with seasons starting in August and September. The soccer season was set to begin on August 22 with 400 players.

Silent Roller Disco Coming in September:
The Park District announced its upcoming Silent Roller Disco event, scheduled for Saturday, September 6, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the Village Commons. The entry fee is $5 per person, while children five and under are admitted for free.

July Financials Approved:
The board unanimously approved the treasurer’s report for the period ending July 31, 2025, as well as the payment of all bills. The approvals covered financial activity for a busy month that included the record-breaking performance at the district’s golf course.
