Wendy’s Project Approved with Multiple Variances: The Village Board gave final approval for a new Wendy’s restaurant at U.S. Route 30 and Frankfort Square Road. The project required a major change to the Cappel Commons development plan and included 10 variances for items such as a larger trash enclosure, reduced setbacks, and extended drive-thru hours until 2 a.m. on weekends.

Downtown Property Gets Deck and Patio Approval: The owner of the historic mixed-use property at 122 Kansas Street received approval for six zoning variances to construct a new paver patio and second-floor rear deck. The variances, primarily involving reduced property setbacks, were needed due to the building’s non-conforming lot size within the H-1 Historic District.

Board Authorizes $1.3 Million Bill Payment: The board approved the payment of bills totaling $1,308,224.37. Trustee Adam Borrelli noted that the largest expenditure was a $645,490 annual payment to SWARM for the village’s general liability, property, and workman’s compensation insurance coverage.

New Historic Preservation Commissioner Appointed: The Village Board unanimously approved the appointment of Rob McKay to the Historic Preservation Commission. McKay will serve the remainder of the term previously held by David Toepper, which is set to expire on April 30, 2027.

Summer Event Season Underway: Mayor Keith Ogle announced the official start of Frankfort’s summer event season. The weekly Cruisin’ Frankfort car show began June 2, and the Frankfort Public Library’s “Fridays on the Green” series will kick off June 6. Other upcoming events include “Art on the Green” on Sunday, June 8, and the first “Movies on the Green,” featuring “Shrek,” on Tuesday, June 10 at Breidert Green.

Concerts and 5K Run Planned for June: The “Concerts on the Green” series will begin its season on Sunday, June 15, with a performance by the WK Dance Band. The Frankfort Park District will also host its 25th annual “Short Run on a Long Day” 5K Run/Walk on Wednesday, June 18, at Main Park.

Park District Referendum Information Available: Board members encouraged residents to get informed about the Frankfort Park District’s upcoming referendum. Following a recent town hall meeting, the park district has posted an informational video and fact sheets on its website, frankfortparks.org, for public review.

Upcoming Village Meetings: Village Clerk Katie Schubert announced the next Committee of the Whole meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11. The next regular Village Board meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 16. Both meetings will take place at Village Hall.
