Student Council Presidents Highlight Senior Year Accomplishments

Lincoln Way’s three student council presidents delivered their final speeches of the school year, highlighting major accomplishments and memorable events before graduating this weekend.

Jason Sro from Lincoln Way Central emphasized the school’s successful completion of numerous spring activities. The peer PE class traveled to Lincoln Way West for Special Games, where special education students and peer buddies participated in competitive activities. Band and orchestra held final concerts celebrating graduating seniors and their musical careers.

Teacher Appreciation Week provided multiple opportunities for students to thank staff, including handwritten notes delivered to teachers and a mobile coffee truck serving staff one morning. Central’s prom at the Odyssey in Tinley Park featured costumes, dancing, bull riding machines and inflatable games, concluding with a fireworks display.

The Knights celebrated their state championship victory with a school-wide tailgate before spring sports games, featuring cornhole, karaoke, and free food. The state championship banner was presented to Principal Dr. McNamara during the baseball game.

Central’s spring athletics showed strong performance across multiple sports. Softball posted a 23-1 record heading into IHSA postseason play, with Isabella Demetriovich recording her 1,000th career strikeout—the first time in school history this milestone was achieved. Baseball compiled a 15-9 record and second place in the SWSC conference.

Track teams began postseason runs with state contenders in every event, while water polo teams prepared for sectional playoffs. Boys volleyball aimed for regional titles as IHSA playoffs began, and girls soccer earned the number two seed in their sectional.

Coach Shawn Fehee reached his 100th career victory as girls soccer head coach with a win over Bradley on May 8th.

Sro will attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to study engineering, with plans to choose a specific field during sophomore year.

Amelia Peterson from Lincoln Way West highlighted their “Under the Sea” prom theme that transformed Tuscany Falls into an ocean escape. West hosted the district’s Special Games event, rolling out the orange carpet for what Peterson called “this year’s district’s 210 event in our special games era.”

Student recognition spanned academics, fine arts, and athletics, while the GG’s Playhouse snack drive demonstrated student council’s commitment to community service. Peterson emphasized how West creates opportunities for all students and drives everyone to perform their best.

Peterson will attend the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to major in nuclear medical technology.

Elena Vargas from Lincoln Way East described their junior and senior prom at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry as a highlight, allowing hundreds of students to tour exhibits, take photos, and dance before returning home.

East’s Special Games week featured spirit days dedicated to participating students, with a Taylor Swift theme day creating memorable moments. Senior Scholarship Night honored 169 seniors with community scholarships, recognizing achievements and providing financial support for post-graduation plans.

Senior week traditions included a 4:00 a.m. sunrise gathering, daily vendors in the cafeteria, photo booths, picnics, and yearbook distribution. Three seniors—Tyler Fox, Joe Sullivan, and David Scott—were named Senior Standouts for extraordinary contributions to school and community.

These students will be permanently honored with framed photos in the Griffin’s Lair featuring QR codes linking to videos of their accomplishments, displayed throughout the 2025-2026 school year.

Vargas will attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to study in the Gies College of Business.

All three presidents expressed gratitude for their opportunities to represent their schools and thanked board members for providing strong community support and leadership opportunities.
