Lincoln-Way West Shuts Out Knights in Conference Matchup

Spread the love

The Lincoln-Way Central varsity softball team struggled to find a rhythm against a potent Lincoln-Way West offense on Friday, falling by a score of 11-0.

Lincoln-Way West wasted no time in seizing control of the contest, plating four runs in the opening frame. The visitors continued to apply pressure throughout the afternoon, adding two runs in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Despite the lopsided final score, the Knights put together a respectable offensive effort. Lincoln-Way Central recorded seven hits in the contest, led by sophomore Audrey Hennings, who went 2-for-3. Carly Karales and Jenna Lee both contributed extra-base hits, including a double apiece, while Hope Davis, Mia Degliomini, and Erin Byrne each added a single.

Defensively, the Knights faced a challenging day, committing seven errors that proved costly against the opportunistic Lincoln-Way West lineup. Madelyn Lanigan handled the bulk of the pitching duties for Central, working five innings and striking out two while allowing five runs. Jenna Lee entered in relief for two innings of work.

Lincoln-Way Central, now 5-24 on the season, will look to tighten up defensively as they continue their conference slate.
