Illinois Quick Hits: Driver killed in reported shootout with police on I-88

(The Center Square) – A man is dead after a reported exchange of gunfire with police on Interstate 88 in DeKalb County.

Illinois State Police said Naperville officers located a vehicle wanted in connection with a missing person having a mental health crisis, but the driver brandished a firearm and fled.

Warrenville police initiated a pursuit after the driver continued to show the weapon. The vehicle stopped after spike strips were deployed on I-88 near Keslinger Road.

Both the driver and a Warrenville officer reportedly discharged their firearms. The driver sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

No officers were injured. ISP is investigating.

TIF FUNDS, CHICAGO TAXPAYERS FUND NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

Chicago officials have broken ground on a housing revitalization project in the city’s South Loop.

According to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office, the project was supported by $11.9 million in tax increment financing approved by the city council in 2025 and a $10 million capital contribution from the Chicago Housing Authority.

FARM BUREAU FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED

The charitable arm of the Illinois Farm Bureau, the IAA Foundation, has announced it will award more than $300,000 to 127 students pursuing agriculture-related degrees.

Students are selected based on their activities and leadership, their community involvement, professional career goals and their overall commitment to success.

The Illinois Farm Bureau and county farm bureaus combine to award more than $1 million in scholarship support each year.
